Our Story
The Country House name was inspired by British traditions in which friends gather for holiday activities not available in town. Built to be a residence, not a hotel, a country house is generally a sprawling older building set in extensive grounds at some distance from its neighbors. As a home shared with guests, its rooms vary in size and décor and are known by name rather than number. Our rooms are named by location or by the birds paintings on the doors by Dany of our staff.
Built in stages since 2001 as a holiday home by an American health consultant posted to Jakarta, the Country House had seen numerous additions and alterations even before extensive repairs entailed by the earthquakes of August 2018 forced our closure until mid-2019. Changes continue as new rooms and services are added. A private tennis court, direct access to Kerandangan National Nature Park, and almost daily sightings of two types of monkey are our special features. Families with children have been especially pleased with our facilities. Shared meals and group activities take place in the commons, surrounding grounds, and the wider Senggigi area. We invite our guests to join us.
Meals are normally shared at a country house, and we expect to add regular full restaurant service in 2023. Bar service awaits licensing. Until then we can serve soft drinks and beer, and guests are welcome to consume other drinks of their own. We discourage smoking and ban it within our buildings.
